AJ Dybantsa’s first NBA minutes come against the Utah Jazz
The curtain rises on AJ Dybantsa’s pro career when the Washington Wizards meet the Utah Jazz in Las Vegas on July 9 at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN. The Summer League opener caps a quick jump from BYU’s hardwood to the NBA’s bright lights for the 20-year-old swingman.
The Jazz drafted Darryn Peterson No. 2 in June, so the rookie will line up across from Dybantsa in their first Summer League clash. The two last met in college when BYU hosted Kansas on a prime-time ESPN broadcast at 9 p.m. on February 24, 2024.
What’s at stake for Utah in this Summer League tilt
Utah’s front office will watch Peterson closely as he faces a player with BYU ties and NBA-level athleticism. Peterson averaged 14.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in his final college season before going second overall in the 2026 draft.
The Jazz enter Summer League on the back of a rough finish to the 2026 season. Their last outing was an April 13 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, 131-107, closing a campaign that saw them drop their final two games.
Dybantsa’s Summer League run and who he’ll match up with
Dybantsa will face three more teams in Las Vegas: Sacramento on July 12, Chicago on July 14, and the Clippers on July 15. The Kings feature guard Devin Carter, while the Bulls bring Caleb Wilson, the No. 4 pick, to Summer League.
Dybantsa told 106.7 The Fans he’s eager to step on the floor and show what he can do for the Wizards. The Summer League stage gives him a chance to test his versatility against talent he didn’t face at BYU.
How Utah fans can follow the Summer League action
Jazz supporters can catch every game on ESPN or Amazon Prime, depending on the date. The July 9 opener against Washington tips at 7 p.m. MT, so mark the calendar if you want to see Peterson and Dybantsa go head-to-head in their first pro meeting.
